“Tesla Model Y Pricing and Updates in the U.S.”

Tesla Model Y

Tesla has streamlined its Model Y lineup in the U.S. by discontinuing the premium Launch Series trim, significantly reducing the electric crossover’s starting price. Originally priced at $59,990 (pre-tax and shipping), the Launch Series included Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system, a vegan suede interior, and exclusive badges, but has now been removed from the website after approximately one month.

Replacing it is the Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant, now starting at $48,990 before taxes and fees. While this base model excludes the $8,000 FSD package—available as an upfront purchase or subscription—it retains the 327-mile EPA range (with 19-inch tires) and offers optional upgrades like 20-inch wheels (reducing range to 303 miles), a $1,000 tow hitch, and interior accessories.

Notably, acceleration dips slightly from 4.1 seconds (Launch Series) to 4.6 seconds for 0-60 mph, though power specifications for the U.S. model remain unspecified; European counterparts deliver 370 hp and 363 lb-ft of torque.

Eligibility for the $7,500 federal tax credit effectively lowers the Long Range AWD’s starting price to $41,490 for qualifying buyers. Despite the Model Y’s historic success as a global bestseller, Tesla faces headwinds as sales decline amid shifting consumer sentiment linked to CEO Elon Musk’s controversial public persona. Reports suggest some loyal owners are transitioning to rival EV brands in protest, signaling challenges for the automaker’s market dominance.

The absence of a seven-seat configuration and the unchanged range metrics highlight Tesla’s strategic adjustments to balance affordability and features in a competitive market.
